The Brothers Karamazov, Dostoevsky's crowning achievement, is a tale of patricide and family rivalry that embodies the moral and spiritual dissolution of an entire society (Russia in the 1870s). It created a national furor comparable only to the excitement stirred by the publication, in 1866, of Crime and Punishment. To Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov captured the quintessence of Russian character in all its exaltation, compassion, and profligacy. Significantly, the book was on Tolstoy's bedside table when he died. Readers in every language have since accepted Dostoevsky's own evaluation of this work and have gone further by proclaiming it one of the few great novels of all ages and countries.
"The Brothers Karamazov stands as the culmination of Dostoevsky's art--his last, longest, richest, and most capacious book," said The Washington Post Book World.

If you're looking for the 2nd Norton Edition, with new translation

I just want to alert readers: This page is for the Second Norton Critical Edition, which is a new translation. However, *all* of the comments and reviews below are for other translations and editions, and the "Look Inside" feature shows a completely different translation and edition.

Just so you know.

Amazon: Get with it, guys. I was wondering when you were going to get so big you could not handle the simple stuff. Here you go.

This is very poor quality for a hardcover.

We know the text is gold, what I review is the quality of this volume which cost $20 at the time of this writing. The size is good for holding in your hands at night. The paper and binding are cheap and of dubious permanency; the worst feature being the pages which are distractingly transparent so as to obscure the words when not flush with the page behind, and even then the text of the next page can be seen.

This is very poor quality for a hardcover.

The Brothers Karamazov is one of the greatest novels ever written. Creating unique, believable characters, Dostoevsky explores three major world views: Ivan, the intellectual atheist; Dimetri, the sensualist, and Alyosha, the Christian believer. Yet, each of these "types" exhibit moments of the other world views. The author portrays these world views in the matrix of Mother Russia. A murder mystery is the framework for revealing and solidifying the natures of each of these characters, but there are many other unforgettable characters in the Russia of the latter 19th century, as depicted here. Who could have birthed "the Grand Inquisitor" argument better, as the atheist's credo? A marvelous, devastating exposure of human nature!

A must-read/do for every Christian wife!

Linda Dillow's book should be required reading of every Christian wife ! Especially helpful for those with children, Dillow addresses submission, priorities, and putting the ZIP back into your love life, amoung other topics. Very easy read, thought-provoking, encouraging, motivating. It's like having a mentor over for tea. I've read many Christian -authored books on marriage; this is THE practical and Bible-centered "how-to" guide for a wife. If I had nothing else on my shelves except Creative Counterpart and my Bible - my library would be complete! This book has changed my marriage, and deepened my Walk immeasureably. Buy it NOW and start pouring over each chapter. Bravo, and thank you to Mrs. Dillow!!!

Keep an open mind if you think submission is a diry word!

I found this book very helpful in re-evaluating the way I treat my husband. In today's society, the word "submissive" is often defined as synonymous with "doormat." However, Linda Dillow's description of submission and how it works in a marriage was enlightening to me. I am already seeing a difference in my marriage, and I feel more at peace with my role as a Christian wife.

I have read nearly a dozen books on growing as a wife and/or mother in the past two years, and this is by far the best overall book I have come accross. Dillow writes in a very concise, purposeful and poignant way. Dillow consitently writes the best study questions I have seen in women's books. They are thoughtful, challenging and always very practical. Dillow is both practical and deeply theological.

Chapter 4, called "priority planner" provides the best organizational scheme for ordering your daily life and home that I have seen. I have always been very organized, but Dillows plan took my daily routine to another level - a much more peaceful and fruitful one. I especially recommend this book for moms with several small children who have very little time, or with women who are making home their full time job for the first time and need some help learning how to self manage their time 24-7.

I suggest grabbing your best friend or two and reading this book together, following the study guide in the back. Most of us need the accountability and friendship to process the deep and challenging things that Dillow presents in this classic book. This book would work very well as a curriculum for a church class. Our church also uses it for 1 - 1 mentorship.

About the Author

Professor Christopher Bones is a people, organization strategy and change expert and an award-winning author of The Cult of the Leader (Jossey-Bass). He has experience working with companies such as Cadbury Schweppes and Shell. Appointed the first non-academic Principal of Henley Business School in 2004, he is now Dean Emeritus at Henley, Professor of Creativity and Leadership at Manchester Business School, and Visiting Professor at the University of Aberdeen.

James Hammersley founded Good Growth, an innovative digital change consulting company, with Christopher Bones. Their clients include The Open University and Barclays Connector among others. Having worked on introducing digital performance to large organizations including Apple, he has witnessed first-hand the potential of digital to transform how companies listen to and respond to customers.

Everything You Need to Optimize Growth Through E-commerce

Online selling of goods and services (e-commerce) is a sustainable source of growth in today’s digitally-driven world. Leading Digital Strategy provides a thorough, comprehensive, and practical roadmap for optimizing customer engagement and sales through this channel.

Bones and Hammersley provide experience-based guidance for all key aspects of digital channel optimization to attract, engage and retain customers through an e-commerce website: strategic purpose, business model, operating model, customer attraction, customer engagement and retention, organisation (metrics, culture, structure, capabilities) and leadership.

Leading Digital Strategy is an engaging read. It is well-researched and generously enhanced with insights and experiences from their extensive and diverse client assignments. Themes of customer-centric design, change agility, simplicity, cross-functional engagement, commercial measurement and ‘test and learn’ optimization are well demonstrated.

Two features I found very helpful are located at the end of each chapter: killer questions and leadership agenda. The former are questions that identify sources of optimization and the latter provides leadership actions to realize these opportunities (that can lead to growth).

Although the authors experience is mostly with medium to large-sized organisations, I can see small businesses equally benefiting from these resources. In fact, I am redesigning my business website following the Good Growth methodology.

Once I finished reading Leading Digital Strategy, I reviewed it again to capture the extensive notes I had made. This is a sign of a must-have book to drive performance.
