A neat but non-essential book

This is a twofer short story book that is fully illustrated into a graphic novel of sorts. The artist is Allois and has some pretty weird artwork. Some of it might seem a little crude, but they all are very dark and mostly horrific, so I think it sets the theme pretty well for both of these dark stories. And both stories are excellent, so this made for a pretty fun read.
The first of the two stories is Poe's classic "The Fall of the House of Usher," where the protagonist is called back to his old childhood friend Usher's house. Usher is sick and dying and has asked for help from his old friend. The protagonist tries to help his friend, but his sister dies, or does she? And his friend Usher is getting swallowed into madness. This is a beautifully written story that is just a pleasure to read. The prose is so advanced to the current writing of today it is an education unto itself.
The second story is Ray Bradbury's ode to Poe's House of Usher as well as other fantastical writers such as Frank Baum. It is called "Usher II" and is similar in theme to his Fahrenheit 451 novel. "Usher II" appears in "The Martian Chronicles" and is set on Mars. The Morality Police on Earth have destroyed and burned all the books and films and anything to do with fiction or non-reality. So the narrator has built the House of Usher on Mars and immediately on his first day with the house the morality police show up and are going to tear down the house, but not without one party before it gets torn down. And, surprise, all the invited guests are related to the morality police. This is another dark tale and actually ends with the same paragraph from "The Fall of the House of Usher." The two stories while very different in styles still complement each other very well.
This was a fun read and I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't think it's an essential book. This is just something complementary that you might want to try out.

Unique and Interesting

I ordered this on pre-order and was super excited for its arrival. I love the illustrations. I've been able to use it in my classroom when teaching horror/suspense/mystery genres.
