After buying the first volume, "Lawyers and Other Reptiles" for a barrister friend in Nigeria, he immediately wanted the sequel. This little book continues the well intentioned poking of fun which even lawyers can enjoy. Good light reading.

Mark Sobkowicz has been teaching physics and computer programming at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School since 1995. He's been programming since the 1980s in Basic, C, C++, Java and more, but Ruby is the language he goes to when working with students. Mark lives in Maynard, Massachusetts, and loves hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

I bought this as a gift for my brother, who is in the first year of his studies as a computer engineer. He has not yet started coding his own games, but he enjoys the format of the book and the fact that it's instructions are adaptable to both Mac and PCs.

Fun projects for the intermediate programmer

This book is a good introduction to how programs can be written in Ruby employing gems and external libraries. I concur with Victor Blake’s review about the experience being more entertaining than educational; however you will gain some practical knowledge by building the games. From there you can stretch out by modifying the games and creating alternative variations. Also agree that this book is not for people brand-new to programming. Follow Victor’s advice about some other intro to programming resources before tackling this text.
For these with some experience with moderate Ruby/Python etc… experience: 4 stars
For the complete novice to programming: Not recommended.

Practical and fun beginners guide to 2D game programming

Learn Game Programming with Ruby is an introductory book to 2D game programming for beginners. It is based on the Ruby programming language and makes use of the Gosu 2D game development library and the Chipmunk physics library. Readers are assumed to have basic programming skills in Ruby as there is no tutorial. The book guides the readers through the process of writing four very different games, which cover many aspects of basic game programming that may be extended or pieced together as the basis for more complex games.

The book first guides the reader to download and set up their Ruby development kit and libraries. From then on, it shows the readers how to write their first game, expand it, and then writing more but very different games as a way to show different techniques in game programming. The complete source code for the four games can be downloaded from the publisher's website.

The last part of the book shows the readers how to package their game for sharing.

The book is divided into the following main chapters, which should give you an idea of what the book is about.

Highly recommend to all

A beautiful and honest book about Nelson's experiences surrounding gender, feminism, and having a child. Throughout, while referencing various queer theorists and engaging some of their ideas, Nelson keeps to the intimate tone, which makes her memoir so stirring, through her lyrical style and realness. If you want a book that manages to acknowledge both the problematic way gender is often dealt with and the sheer amount of possibility there is to the human experience, this book is for you.

Beautifully written meditation on almost everything

I appreciate any artist who can relate theory and philosophy to everyday life - who can take their specific experiences and draw resonant themes without losing the details of what is specific. This is an accessible, exciting romp through theory, art, motherhood, philosophy, relationships, gender, pregnancy, death, and so much more. The author relates her thoughts, experiences, and connections without claiming very much as universal. It is a fine example of how gifted people live thoughtful, well-examined lives.

Oleksandr Zaporozhets and Vadim Tokarev�are Professors at the National Aviation University of the Ukraine. They�were awarded a silver medal for�achieving success in the development of a national economy of the�USSR in 1987.

Keith Attenborough is Research Professor in Acoustics at the Open University, Education Manager of the (UK) Institute of Acoustics, and former Editor-in-Chief of Applied Acoustics. In 1996 he received the Rayleigh gold medal from the Institute of Acoustics and is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Acoustics and a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

Great Primer - The current edition is a great primer text for anyone who drives (or will work on) a vehicle. Many of the teachers at our school would like to take the course and read the book. The chapters on Common Problems and Roadside Emergencies and Alternate Fuels and Designs provide good insight to the realities of driving a vehicle now and in the near future. Buying an Automobile and Automotive Expenses chapters give an eye opening taste of owning a vehicle for high school students. A good all-around starter book! Quality vs. Quantity is a Perfect Balance - I am the department chair for the auto program and I along with the other auto instructors have picked your book to use in all the introduction classes (Auto 50, 58, 59, 79-A and the consumer class when offered). I think changing to colored illustrations adds a lot to the book along with the web addresses, tech tips, Q & A areas. I would sum up the book by saying it covers all the systems on vehicles to a point where the student can determine what areas they have an interest in then pursue an advanced diagnostic class. About the Author
About Mike

Mike has roots in the automotive service industry. He began diagnosing and fixing cars at a young age in his family's service station. He has worked in automotive parts supply stores, towing companies, and service facilities. After graduating from St. Cloud State University (MN) with a Bachelor's degree, he implemented and taught a basic car care program at the high school level. During work on his Master's degree at Illinois State University (IL), he was a curriculum specialist on a National Science Foundation project where he co-authored ten integrated mathematics, science, and technology books designed for team teaching. Mike has also supervised over 60 teachers in Career and Technology Education as a school system administrator.

About Linda

Linda was motivated to learn about cars early on by her desire to be self-reliant and save money. As basic maintenance and repairs were needed on her car she figured out how to do them. She could often be found working on her Pontiac Fiero and reupholstering automotive interiors at her family's upholstery shop. She found guidance from automotive manuals, her family, friends, and husband Mike. During her studies at the University of Redlands (CA), she worked with classmates to design, build, and test a hybrid electric vehicle. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Linda worked as a Project Engineer for a bicycle component company. Linda's other interests include alternative energies, home renovation, graphic design, and writing.

Love the Product, but make sure to buy this WITH the textbook

Perhaps needs to come with the text, but everything is done online in terms of research, etc. There are many lines that say, "When the teacher holds up the different types of tools, write them down".....But, I don't have a teacher and am using this to learn more about cars so I'm still a bit lost. The idea of this workbook is awesome because I love learning by doing. But a lot of stuff is left out because I believe it's covered in the text. Make sure to just buy both of them rather than just the workbook like I did. That was my bad for not paying attention though so I can't be mad at the authors. Really innovative idea

Bought this for a homeschool class my son was taking. I will go through this myself and with my daughter as well. This is a great accompaniment to the book.

great workbook, I'm currently taking an automotive class and this is the book we are learning from. It's not the textbook, but I highly recommend you buy the text book, just so you can review whenever you might forget something. Satisfied with the learning material.
